Jim Buttress Offically Opens Museum of Gardening

1st August 2016

It was party time at the weekend as the South Downs Heritage Centre celebrated its Grand Opening, raising over £500 for The Budding Foundation in the process.

Gardening celebrity Jim Buttress, officially opened the Budding Foundation Museum of Gardening on Saturday 30 July. Jim, former Royal gardener, multiple gold winner at Chelsea and highly acclaimed horticulturalist, is well known for his appearances on TV’s ‘The Big Allotment Challenge’ and the ‘Dig It’ radio show. He cut the ribbon on Saturday 30th July and stayed to talk to visitors, answer gardening questions and sign copies of his new book ‘The People’s Gardener’. Jim commented “It’s the first time I’ve been asked to open anything like this, focusing on a subject so close to my heart. I’m thrilled to be a part of it.”

Funds were raised for The Budding Foundation, founded by Clive Gravett, in the form of raffle tickets and charitable donations over the weekend. Clive is also curator of the Budding Foundation Museum of Gardening, which is the first museum in Sussex to truly focus on the history of gardening. He said of the weekend “I’m so immensely proud of how this museum has come together over the past few months. I’m so grateful that we’ve been given this space to build our museum and raise awareness of our charity, so we can continue our work with young people in need of support.”
